Chicago’s poets sing the secrets of our city. Drawing on the inexpressible joys and sorrows of Chicago’s rich cultural traditions, poets such as Carl Sandburg and Gwendolyn Brooks Express the diverse rhythms and movements of urban life. This performance celebrates Chicago through the voices of its poets, exploring exciting lyrical texts through theater, dance, and music, and connecting the cultural heritage of our city to the musical traditions that enrich our lives here, such as blues, jazz, rave, salsa, drumming and hip-hop. The performance will be followed by an audience question-answer session with the Steppenwolf Ensemble and participating poets whose work is dramatized in the performance, on the process of bringing poetry to the stage.
