Suheir Hammad has read her work internationally at book stores, galleries, museums and universities. She conducts writing workshops with young people and teaches writing to adults in schools and community centers. Throughout her career, Suheir has lent her support to campaigns to free political prisoners (most notably Mumia Abu Jamal), to end domestic violence, and for the promotion of human and student?s rights. Suheir has been awarded the Audre Lorde Writing Award at Hunter College and her readings have been featured on BBC World Service. She is the Author of Drops of This Story and born Palestinian, born Black.

For Seven Years Kevin Coval has been writing and performing poetry at high schools, community centers and universities across the country and around the globe. He is a published poet, essayist, and journalist. Kevin has had the opportunity to open for Cornel West and Ralph Nader and perform at the Parliament of the world?s Religions in Cape Town, South Africa. He is a teacher a Prolouge Alternative High School and the Youth Education Coordinator for Guild Complex.

Mario has been performing poetry in the Chicago area for the past nine years, appearing at venues such as Steppenwolf, Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Old Town School of Folk Music, Guild Complex, Houlse of Blues (Chicago). His written work appears in Power Lines: A Decade of Poetry from Chicago?s Guild Complex and he will be featured on accomplished musician Fareed Haque?s CED tribute to Chilean poet Pablo Neruda later this year. His first book of collected works, Bedrock Simplicity will be released in 2001.

Honed by the Chicago winds, Nikki Patin?s poems range from deeply contemplative self-explorations to scathingly honest commentaries on society, race, and gender. Nikki has already earned her stage stripes at venues like the Empty Bottle, WomanMade Gallery, and most recently, opening for Jill Scott at the Metro (Chicago).
