Akashic Books is a Brooklyn, NY based independent press dedicated to publishing urban literary fiction and political non-fiction. Tonight we present two of their premier authors who happen to be based in Chicago. Daniel Buckman was born in Rockford, Illinois. ?Water In Darkness?, his first novel, examines the Vietnam War?s living legacy in modern America. Buckman uses psychological landscapes and terse dialogue to present an America that is a wasteland of depraved cities and drought-stricken cornfields. Sparrow Patterson is a twenty-eight-year-old novelist and poet living in Chicago. She is a member of the Hodge Podge Art Movement to which she donates her paintings (the proceeds go to abused-women shelters). ?Synthetic Bi Products? is Patterson?s first novel.Performers
