After the seventh-inning stretch, Rick Telander will read from his debut novel String Music. With an absent father and a frazzled mother, eleven year old Robby Denwood has one delight- watching Jasper Jasmine play basketball. In this novel, Telander renders a sympathetic portrait of a young boy searching for hope in heroes. (For parents looking for books for their children to read on summer break, this reading will be of particular interest). The lead sports columnist for the Chicago Sun Times , Telender was a senior writer for Sports Illustrated and covered the Chicago Bulls during their glory years. He has written several well known nonfiction books including Heaven is a Playground, which covered the lives of court wizards from Brooklyns Bedford-Stuyvesant playgrounds.Performers
