Combining childhood antics, contemporary satire and a young man’s love of hip-hop, Aaron McGruder probes current events in his revolutionary and controversal comic strip Boondocks. Following the lives of two African American Brothers relocated from the south side of Chicago to white suburbia, Boondocks dosen’t shy away from racially and politically charged topics.

Debuting in 1997, the strip is now seen in more than 300 papers. With an artistic style influenced by anime, Boondocks offers in-your-face content that insists readers question and consider how race and society are interweaved.

Award-winning journalist Robert “Scoop” Jackson is making moves rarely seen before in American Journalism. As co-founder and former executive editor-in chief of the groundbreaking magazine XXL, executive publisher of The Agenda and contributer for NBA Inside Stuff, Hoop, and Vibe magazines among others, prolific is a term often used when describing Jackson’s contribution to sports, hip hop, and urban culture. He is the author of several books, including The Darkside (Noble Press) and The Last Black Mecca (Frontline Press). His significance to sports journalism is on a par with his commitment to social critique and urban culture. Through an artistic lens, Exploring Ameriaca in Change examines and interrogates issuse engenered by the ebents of 9-11 and subsequent changes in American life. This evenings discussion will be followed by a question and answer session with the audience.

Following the discussion, a Meet the Authors Reception will offer Guild Complex members the chance to meet Aaron McGruder and Robert “Scoop” Johnson.
