Poetry with David Hernandez

An active member of Chicago’s arts community, David Hernandez has published several books of poetry including Despertando/Waking Up (1991], and Rooftop Piper[Tia Chucha Press 1991.

He has written, recited, and taught poetry for thirty years and was commissioned to write a poem for Chicago’s 150th anniversary in 1987. In addition to his own publications, Hernandez has edited three poetry anthologies.

Dan “Sully” Sullivan, host of Mental Graffiti, is scheduled to appear in the upcoming season of Russell Simmons’ Def Poetry Jam on HBO. A member of the 2003 Wicker Park National Poetry Slam team, he received the 2002 Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Poetry Award, co-leads the Oak Park River Forest High School Spoken Word Club and works with students all over the city.
