11th annual The life and legacy of Gwendolyn Brooks continue at the Guild Complex as we present the 11th Annual Open Mic Awards named in her honor. Past winners include Tara Betts, Lucy Anderton, Daniel Sullivan, C.C. Carter and Tricia Hersey. An esteemed panel of judges will select 25 poems from the submissions. [Last year, more than 100 poets sub mitted), Each of the 25 poets will then perform their piece at the Chopin Theatre on June 30.
You, the audience, will choose the Winner. who will receive a $500 prize as well as the coveted title. We are eternally grateful for the support and fellowship that Ms. Brooks, Ms. Nora Brooks-Blakely and the Brooks family have extended to the Guild Complex throughout our history and through their support of this award.
