HOW DID THIS EVEN HAPPEN?  – Theater Oobleck, Curious Theater Branch, Cardiff Giant, Redmoon Theater, Lookingglass Theatre, and the Neofuturists!

All of these Chicago companies arrived on the scene within a year of each other at the close of the 80s, each of them unique, but each with a style in their scripts and performances that shared many elements. And all of them influencing the unusual works of playwright Mickle Maher.

Come explore this still unnamed theater style with Mickle and historian Mark Larson, author of Ensemble: An Oral History of Chicago Theater, and celebrate the recent release of Mickle’s new book, 6 Plays.

They’ll be joined by a panel of artists who were part of and helped shape that scene: Laura T. Fisher, Dexter Bullard, Andy White, Jenny Magnus, and former Chicago Reader theater critic, Anthony Adler.

In addition, actors Diana Slickman, Colm O’Reilly, Heather Riordan, and Laura Fisher will be reading an extended cut from Mickle’s play It Is Magic.
