The play is presented in conjunction with Loyola University Conference Jan Karski Days in Chicago

and the exhibition The World Knew: Jan Karski’s Mission for Humanity – Illinois Holocaust Museum

Description: Coming to See Aunt Sophie is a tragic, heroic saga of the man who tried to stop the Holocaust.

The title of the play refers to the code used by Polish Underground courier Jan Karski in one

of the most monumental missions of WWII — to inform Western European and American leaders

(including President Roosevelt) about the Holocaust. As an emissary of the Polish Resistance

Karski carried classified and eye witness accounts gathered when he penetrated the Warsaw Ghetto

disguised as a Jew and a Nazi transit camp disguised as a guard. Tragically the Allies chose

not to act on his report.

For today’s increasingly partisan and tragic world, Jan Karski’s quest to save a defenseless
