The ongoing series of events known as ZAMBO II celebrates the interrelation of African and Native American cultures.

In conjunction with ZAMBO II, the Guild Complex and Kino Eye Cinema present two films which celebrate the cultural survival and legacy of resistance of Natives and Africans in the Americas. Chicago artist Ivan Watkins will present his work-in-progress ZAMBO (10 min.,) which pays tribute to the rich legacy and little known history of red and black resistance to colonialism with the Southeast United States. This will be followed by QUILOMBO (Brazil 1984, 114 min., 35 mm), Carlos Digues; highly acclaimed historical saga set in 17th century Brazil. QUILOMBO pay homage to Ganga Zumba and Zubi, the legendary leaders of Polmares, the most famous of the self-governing strong-holds for runaway slaves.
