March 14, saw the 12th annual Nelson Algren Birthday party and Stu McCarrell tribute. The Chopin theater, just opposite the Algren fountain hosted. We pulled over a hundred people on a rainy Chicago night.The very first birthday party was at Lotty’s pub, and since then we’ve moved down Milwaukee Ave. to the Chopin Theater.
Richard Harding, and Art Shay showed up unannounced for the event. We missed Len Des Pres, who didn’t get word in time. Dennis Mueller and Mark Blottner did some great video footage for the party and the Prop Theater folks performed two songs from their current production: Brechts St. Joan.
