Fred Schmaltz is a 1997 SASE/Jerome Fellow, an editor for the national literary annual Fish Stories and a founding member of Gazelle Poets. His poems have appeared in Mangrove, Jackleg, and Forklift Ohio, among other magazines. He founded Hands Down Press in 1996 to publish chapbooks by emerging poets. Schmaltz lives in St. Paul, Minnesota with his wife. The poems Schmaltz presents at this reading originated as a series of letters and postcards written in the Fall and Winter of 1998-99. Schmaltz will present this new work at Walker Art Center and Patrick?s Cabaret this Spring.
